Malu Castellanos is a manager and technical contributor in the Vertica group of Hewlett Packard in Sunnyvale, CA, USA. Before then she was a senior researcher at HP Labs in Palo Alto, CA. Since 1998 she has been applying data management and analytics technologies to develop solutions for different kinds of business and customer related problems and developing novel techniques in those areas. She received a B.S. in Computer Engineering at the National University of Mexico and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Polytechnic University of Catalunya (UPC). Prior to joining Hewlett-Packard she was on the faculty at the Information Systems Department of the UPC. She has 15 granted patents and over 20 pending and more than 85 publications in international conferences, journals and book chapters. She has participated in numerous Program Committees and journal review boards and served as General and Industrial Chair of IEEE and ACM international conferences. For the last 8 years she has been organizing the workshop on Real Time Business Intelligence at VLDB. She has been invited as a keynote speaker for a number of conferences and is a member of the Executive Committee of IEEE Technical Committee of Data Engineering (TCDE). Her current interests are information management technologies in general, and in particular, real-time business intelligence, analytics and databases.
