Irish Tax Institute Selects MarkLogic for new TaxFind Database

MarkLogic® database chosen for speed of development and search performance; replaces relational database

LONDON – November 17th, 2015 – MarkLogic Corporation, the leading Enterprise NoSQL database provider, today announced that the Irish Tax Institute has gone live with TaxFind, a new tax research database built on the MarkLogic® platform. The Institute chose the MarkLogic database for its fast development time – it went from concept to production in just seven months – and its high-speed search capabilities across huge, complex archives.

With the aim of building the industry’s best tax service, the Institute moved its flagship digital service from a relational database to MarkLogic. As well as providing the flexibility required, the MarkLogic database allows the Institute to enrich its content, create new member services and deliver information to all browsers and mobile devices.

The organization’s goal was to integrate a huge level of data, bringing together in excess of 300,000 pages of tax content including archive material in Word, PDF, XML and HTML. By choosing the MarkLogic database, the Institute was able to easily digest and digitize information in any format and make it searchable. MarkLogic’s scalability and flexibility means that the Institute can also add recorded audio/visual content from its conferences and lectures in the future and make it easily accessible with the power of MarkLogic’s search engine.

“We have a sizeable archive of valuable tax information contained in many different formats. The challenge was finding a solution that could store and access the large repository of data whilst at the same time providing a simple search interface that pinpointed very quickly the most relevant material for members,” said Martin Lambe, Chief Executive, Irish Tax Institute.

“To enhance the search capability we developed a tax taxonomy to enrich the content and we will continue to develop this further. Our members operate on a global basis and are reliant on technology and systems being available 24/7 365 days a year. Irrespective of where our members are or which device they are using, the new cloud based platform will be available to support them,” Lambe added.

In February 2015, the Institute appointed UK-based MarkLogic partner 67 Bricks because of its reputation for enriching publishers’ content and its experience building unified search across organizations.

“67 Bricks selected MarkLogic for the Institute because its next-generation database software has the hardened-enterprise capabilities required by the customer. The Institute has a mandate to use technology in innovative ways and the MarkLogic database combined with 67 Bricks content enrichment expertise fitted the bill,” said Sam Herbert, Client Services Director at 67 Bricks. “Its decision was validated as we were able to launch an innovative, industry-leading service in a very short timescale.”

“Irish Tax Institute’s TaxFind is a great example of how to integrate many silos of data to deliver a single view across the organization and launch a new, market-leading service,” said Adrian Carr, Group Vice President at MarkLogic. “Because of MarkLogic’s enterprise features, the Institute is able to do so with the high availability, security and reliability today’s organizations demand.”
