David Jordan is a software developer at SAS Institute in Cary, NC.

Previoulsy he was a data warehouse architect in the bioinformatics group at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has an M.S. in Computer Science and a Masters in Bioinformatics.

While at Bell Labs, his interests in the integration of object and database modeling led him to approach Ontologic in 1985 and convince them to develop the first C++ object database. He served as a member of their technical advisory board during its development. In 1990 Bell Labs appointed David a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff for his pioneering work in object modeling and database design.

In 1993 the Object Database Management Group (ODMG) (http://www.odmg.org) asked David to serve as their C++ editor. David had a column in C++ Report covering object databases and authored the Addison-Wesley book C++ Object Databases. David was also appointed to serve as ODMG’s Java editor. He served as an editor of four books published by the ODMG, including their last book The Object Data Standard: ODMG 3.0.

While working at Ericsson, David established a partnership with Poet Software to develop a small footprint, pure-Java, ODMG-compliant object database for use in embedded environments.

David also had a column in Java Report covering the storing of objects in databases. He became a founding member of the Java Data Objects expert group within the Java Community Process. He founded Object Identity to provide JDO consulting services and was selected to serve as the moderator of the JDOcentral.com web site. He co-authored the O’Reilly book on Java Data Objects.
