Peter Baumann
Peter Baumann is Professor of Computer Science at Jacobs University Bremen where
he teaches databases, Web services, and Software Engineering. He holds a PhD from
Tech. Univ. Darmstadt. His research interest focuses on large-scale multi-dimensional
array databases and their application in earth and life sciences, Grid, e-learning,
etc.
Prior to joining Jacobs in 2004, he was consultant with Softlab GmbH, then Assistant
Head of the Knowledge Base Research Group at the Bavarian Research Center for Knowledge-based
Systems, and founder and CEO of two spin-off companies. He has authored and co-authored
60+ book chapters and papers on raster databases and further fields, and holds international
patents on array databases. He has received a series of national and international
innovation awards for his work. He is member of the Open GeoSpatial Consortium (OGC,
where he is chairing three working groups on raster services), of the Commission
for the Management and Application of Geoscience Information, and a founding member
of CODATA Germany.
