Bio
Bob Bretl is a founder and Principal Engineer at GemStone Systems Inc. where he
is currently responsible for new development and support of the Facets OODBMS. Over
his 24 years at GemStone, he has developed many of the key components of the architecture,
including the page cache, garbage collectors, object table, transaction support
functions, and provided the inspiration and lead the development for the first release
of the GemFire product.
Bob is the co-author on several papers including: "The GemStone Data Management
System", "Persistent Java Objects in 3 Tier Architectures", "Reduced-Conflict Objects"
and "Achieving High Concurrency in Object Oriented Databases". Bob is also the co-inventor
of 3 patents on GemStone's OODBMS technology and 5 of the patents pending on the
GemFire technology.
Bob earned his Bachelorbs degree in Mathematics from Carroll College in Waukesha,
Wisconsin and is Masters in Computer Science from Iowa State University in Ames,
Iowa.
