Pericles Loucopoulos

Pericles Loucopoulos is Visiting Professor at Harokopio University of Athens.

Previously, Pericles Loucopoulos, had a chair of Information Systems at the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology (UMIST), in Manchester, U.K., contributing with the series of articles about Enterprise Modelling.

Pericles Loucopoulos had the chair of Information Systems at the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology (UMIST), in Manchester, U.K., where he has worked since January 1984 following a period of seven years in industry.

He has taught widely on a a range of subjects, including requirements engineering, enterprise knowledge modelling, data modelling, databases, and information systems development approaches. His research interests focus on the provision of Information Processing systems that support large, complex and dynamic organisational systems. Such systems exhibit characteristics of extreme flexibility resulting from rapidly changing goals and objectives, operating across a dynamic, distributed environment. His research has been supported by numerous research grants funded by the EPSRC, by the Commission of the European Communities and by industry.

He has served on the IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society Advisory Committee and chaired the Technical Committee on Information Systems Engineering, Requirements Engineering and Software Quality. He is a member of the Steering Committee of the International Conference on the Entity-Relationship Approach and of the Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE). He has served as General Chair and Programme Chair of many international conferences and has been a member of over 80 Programme Committees of international conferences.

He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Requirements Engineering published by Springer-Verlag. He is also the area editor for ‘business applications and information systems engineering’ for the International Journal of Information Systems published by Pergamon Press and serve on the editorial boards of the Journal of Information Systems published by Blackwell Scientific Publications, the Information Systems Engineering journal published by North-Holland and the International Journal of Computer Research (IJCR) published by Nova Science Publishers.

He has acted as an international scientific expert for Italian, Austrian and Greek Governmental institutions. Between 2002-2003 he acted as advisor to the Organising Committee for the Olympic Games of Athens 2004 where he was responsible for the development of conceptual and simulation models for operations planning for competition venues during the Olympic Games.

His the co-author of 5 books, the co-editor of 1 book, the editor of 2 volumes of conference proceedings, the co-editor of 1 volume of conference proceedings and the author and co-author of over 100 journal, invited and peer reviewed conference papers.
