The panel discussed the pros and cons of new data stores with respect to classical relational databases.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The panel of experts was composed of:
\n-Robert Greene, Chief Strategist Versant.
\n-Leon Guzenda, Chief Technology Officer Objectivity.
\n-Michael Keith, architect at Oracle.
\n-Patrick Linskey, Apache OpenJPA project.
\n-Peter Neubauer, COO NeoTechnology.
\n-Ulf Michael (Monty) Widenius, main author of the original version of the open source MySQL database.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Moderators were: Alan Dearle, University of St. Andrew, and myself.<\/p>\n

The panelists engaged in lively discussions addressing a variety of interesting issues, such as: why the recent proliferation of \u201cnew data stores\u201d, such as \u201cdocument stores\u201d, and \u201cnosql databases\u201d; their differences with classic relational databases, how object databases compare with NoSQL databases, scalability and consistency for huge amount of data…to name a few.<\/p>\n
