UK Ministry of Defense Selects InterSystems HealthShare® and IRIS for Health™ to underpin new Defense Medical Information System
Leading healthcare interoperability platform will form the heart of the new systems, while its next-generation data platform will enable the MoD to rapidly develop new healthcare functionality
Eton, U.K., June 2, 2021 — InterSystems, a creative data technology provider dedicated to helping customers solve the most critical scalability, interoperability, and speed problems, will provide its industry leading technology and support to the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense (MoD) in its mission to deliver an integrated ecosystem of medical information services to the Defense Medical Services.
Through Programme CORTISONE, the MoD’s Defense Digital organization will rejuvenate the current Medical Information Services (Med IS) system, on behalf of the Defense Medical Services. The Defense Medical Services is staffed by 12,200 service personnel, plus an additional 2,500 civilian personnel to “promote, protect, and restore” the health of over 135,000 UK Armed Forces Personnel.
The program will employ the InterSystems HealthShare suite of connected health data solutions to normalize, aggregate, and deduplicate data into a longitudinal Unified Care Record for each individual patient. In addition, the MoD will use InterSystems IRIS for Health, the world’s first and only data platform specifically engineered to extract value from healthcare data and rapidly create and scale breakthrough applications.
As a technology partner for Programme CORTISONE, InterSystems will deliver capabilities for the Integration Platform, CORTISONE Portal, Terminology Service, Enterprise Master Patient Index, and Provider Directory (IP/EMPI). While InterSystems HealthShare® Unified Care Record will form the very heart of the new Defense Medical Information Systems, InterSystems IRIS for Health will allow the MoD to develop new healthcare functionality rapidly as new requirements arise in the future.
“InterSystems provides the leading healthcare interoperability platform globally, as well as within the NHS, and brings a wealth of experience in military health systems to the program as a delivery partner to the U.S. Government, Health Affairs” said Chris Norton, Managing Director, UK & Ireland, InterSystems. “Our agile nature and strong track record collaborating with healthcare service providers means that we’re well placed to deliver innovative solutions in this open and integrated environment. InterSystems technology will deliver more integrated and valuable information to support improved health outcomes in serving personnel.”
The Programme is a collaboration across all the Defense Services and aims to integrate and operate a full suite of COTS (Commercial Off the Shelf) healthcare software and services from multiple healthcare suppliers; InterSystems will provide training and skills transfer and collaborate effectively with the Authority and the enterprise of suppliers who provide products, services and skilled resources to support delivery.
