Dhruba Borthakur is an engineer in the Database Engineering Team at Facebook. He has been instrumental in the design and architecture of Rocksdb, a key-value store optimized for storing data in flash and main-memory storage. He has been one of the founding architects of the Apache Hadoop Distributed File System and has been instrumental in scaling Facebook’s Hadoop cluster to multiples of petabytes. Dhruba also is a contributor to the open source Apache HBase project.

Earlier, he has held senior engineering positions at Veritas Software (since acquired by Symantec) and IBM Transarc Labs and worked on a variety of storage systems including Veritas File System, Andrew File System(AFS), etc.  Dhruba has an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and a B.S. in Computer Science BITS, Pilani, India.
